In 2023, motorcycle industry generally showed a sustained upward trend.  According to the China Motorcycle Chamber of Commerce, motorcycle sales in 2023 was about 19 million units, down 11.34% year-on-year. Despite the decline in overall sales, the large-displacement motorcycle market shines. Sales of motorcycles with a displacement above 250ml reached around 530,000 units, a threefold increase compared to 2019.

Developments in the large-displacement motorcycle market

Large-displacement motorcycle market performs well in 2023, with 530,000 units sales of motorcycle over 250ml. Brands such as Haojue, QJMOTOR and CFmotor excelled in the large-displacement motorcycle market, with Haojue topping the list with 100,000 units sold, followed by QJMOTOR, and CFmotor taking third place with 70,000 units sold.   

Export of motorcycles

In terms of export, China's motorcycle exports grow steadily. In 2023, China exported a total of about 8.32 million motorcycles, an increase of 8.8% year-on-year. Among them, the large-displacement motorcycles exported 198,000 units, up 54.9% year-on-year. Chongqing, as an important base for motorcycle industry, accounted for 4.12 million units, up 30% year-on-year.

Domestic motorcycle market situation

Despite the bright performance of the large-displacement motorcycle market, the overall sales volume of the domestic motorcycle market declined. 2023 China's total domestic sales of motorcycles amounted to 5.86 million units, a year-on-year decline of 2.9%. This indicates that domestic market demand had not yet fully recovered and consumer confidence still needed to be further improved.
